What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are popular cosmetic dentistry treatment that covers the front of the teeth and are used for subtle changes, as well as dramatic transformations. Depending on your circumstances, the dentist may use either porcelain veneers or composite resin veneers to cover the front of the tooth, giving you a whole new smile.

What Kind Of Dental Problems Can Dental Veneers Be Used For?

  • Gaps in your smile due to missing teeth or spacing issues
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Misalignment of teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Different lengths of teeth

What Are The Benefits Of Porcelain Veneers?

  • Making all of your teeth the same length
  • Realigning your bite
  • Stabilizing cracked or broken teeth
  • Preventing tooth decay
  • Strengthening weak or loose teeth
  • Replacing missing teeth that can cause functional problems later on

Are Porcelain Veneers Permanent?

Porcelain veneers typically last anywhere from 15-25 years, when cared for properly. Well maintained veneers can potentially last a lifetime. Only a small percentage of people who choose porcelain veneers are able to get the kind that requires no tooth preparation. If that is the case, then you may have veneers that can be removed without any problems with your teeth.

Composite Resin Veneers vs. Porcelain Veneers

Composite resin veneers are made of tooth-colored, biocompatible material. The dental composite is applied directly to the tooth and skillfully sculpted for natural-looking results. Composite resin veneers require little to no preparation for the tooth and are not permanent.

Porcelain veneers are thin, translucent shells of tooth-like material. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and have similar light reflecting properties compared to natural teeth.

A Lumineer is a type of dental veneer. Though we do not use the Lumineer brand, our dentists are able to offer similar restorations. Select patients are a candidate for no-prep or minimal prep porcelain veneers. Dr. Donna Vagnozzi-Bucci can help you decide what type of porcelain veneer is right for you.
